Islington Community Art Project
I was recently involved in a interactive community art show. For the show, Alasdair Swenson created a microphone controlled lighting system which ran up the stair well of the flats, emitting multi coloured lights which moved and changed colour. As you can see from the photos not only did this look stunning but the community loved it and so did the viewers, a light show with amazing live performances. In addition to this I created a live Puppet show for the residence to play with so they could be involved in the making of the work. The puppet show took place with made puppets from collage materials and pins, against a green background. Much like a green screen the background was deleted and pictures submitted by residence where added for a backdrop, so my collage creatures could take over the estate. In addition to this, photographs and art work submitted by local residence was included in the show, along side students work, other local artists and works created by the children from the estate and the local school. The local school redecorated the external facade of the tower block on paper traces to how ever the children decided they wanted it to look in the future, The results where amazing. The children from the estate created a collage made from magnets to run with the theme of creatures taking over their estate. The event took place to mark the new ear of the building which will get a face lift in the new year and to celebrate community in a positive way.
